Crazy Bible thumper lady came in and actually talked to me.
I was really kind with her and I did my best to be patient, but after explaining all of the things I explained in the first post about her, it turned out she wasn't worried about her religion being given equal time, she was flat out not wanting to see anything pagan related.
I told her very kindly, and with as open a heart as I could muster, that it was my goal in this job, and in my life, to be as open and loving with people as possible, and to show love to anyone who follows any path, even hers, which is not mine.
She was shocked. She assumed that I was a follower of her path who simply didn't realize that I had pagan items in my store.
She was absolutely flabberghasted, when I told her, that her path was not mine, but that I respected it and had no intent to disrespect her, and that I am a Wiccan. She literally...literally, clutched her pearls, and gasped. "Oh, there is nothing you could possibly do to disrespect me, I have the ONE AND ONLY Lord!"
I smiled, and said, "Oh, I'm so glad I didn't want you to think I didn't care about your concerns."
So then she leaves, and I go about my day...
2 weeks later, which was just last week, she comes back in the evening, when I'm not there, and gets into it with 2 of my co workers, who also tried their best to be kind. Neither of them follow her path.
Apparently, she believes that the reason that some of the items are no longer on the shelf, is because she complained, and I had to remove them.
Wrong dear. Those items are gone from my shelves, because they sold out. They are on reorder.

She's so oppressed. So persecuted.
My boss comes to me this morning, and says..."So a woman called, left a message (no name, no number for call back) saying that she didn't feel comfortable shopping here anymore, and that she was going to let all of her friends know that we sell items used for witchcraft, and that we are supporters of witchcraft."
Well, as it turns out, I am the buyer of gifts at my store. Being an earth friendly, natural foods, hippy friendly type of place, we have a lot of requests for things like goddess pendants, or pentacle charms. Often, I get a request for a particular book from a Pagan author, or a deck of tarot cards. I like to make my customers happy, and sometimes that means bringing in 2 or 3 of any given item to meet the mandatory minimums for a given supplier.
So, at the moment, I have a stack of goddess pendants, some female centered literature, and some beautifully illustrated tarot decks. I also have an entire line of gorgeous candles, and another line of wonderful, biodynamic Incense. Also, some yoga stuff.
Let's keep in mind, that I also have had Shop-Give-Courage items, (Christian company) Raku Crosses, (Christian symbolism) and Angels, (Duh) and we currently have a whole line of very visually Christian breads and cereal products called "Ezekiel." Those items have bible verses right on the boxes.

I guess in a way, it's just for me.
I was in a funk this morning. I don't really know why I keep this thing up. I'm not sure if there is a way to tell if I have any subscribers, and there are rarely any comments, which makes me think no one is reading it.
Sometimes, I feel like no one is really interested in what I'm doing, and trying to do...
But then I just need to take a breath, look in the mirror, and convince myself that it's still good to keep track of things like this.
So I keep going.
At any rate, I'm not looking for pity, I'm just writing about where I am.
Today, I dyed up a bunch of really nice fiber and yarns, and went through the entire process before I realized...I forgot to add the acid to my dyes.
Fuck.

In other news, I'm SO excited to announce that I have been offered another position at work! I will be the new HABA buyer, and I will finally be able to leave the produce department! I'm so flippin excited I could just pee with excitement.
Kind of along those lines, I found something very funny at work. One of my jobs is the mercantile buyer. I get to purchase the odds and ends, gifty, candles, altar supplies, and things of that nature. Well, I have a line of jewelry that is silver Wiccan/Pagan symbols. I keep finding Chick tracts setting next to my jewelry. While I find it rather hysterical, I don't necessarily find it funny, and I look forward to the day when I catch the asshole who keeps leaving GARBAGE on my shelves.
For crying out loud man, don't leave your guilt inducing bullshit on my shelves. Don't like my items? Don't approve of them? Then don't buy them. Simple as that.

Sheep to Shawl Festival, Salem Oregon, May 2017
So, we went to the Sheep to Shawl festival on Saturday.
I hadn't been in several years.
I wish I had tons of fun pictures, and stories to share.
There were 4 vendors.
Two yarn/fiber. One of which was all lovely, natural handspun. The other was WAY overpriced indie dyed. Way overpriced. Like, more expensive than Voolenvine yarns high end bases, but not as interestingly colored. No.
She also had a ton of gorgeous fiber, priced three times higher than anyone I've ever seen selling.
Like, for example, she wanted $35 for 2 ounces of merino. Hah. I can get merino on Etsy for around 5 or 6 bucks an ounce.
She was nice, and some of her yarn was soft and nice, but boring.
One vendor had beautful hand made jewelry from Peru, and she and her hubby work with a few families in Peru, paying them above fair trade wages for their work, funneling 100% of the proceeds back to the families. So my sweetie picked me out some nice earrings and a collar style necklace which I adore.
There was also a soap vendor, who tried to tell me that there were no chemicals in his soap. I had to remind him that water we drink and the air we breathe are chemicals, and he protested.
I laughed at him and walked away, because science.
We went inside and there were some folks spinning on wheels. All of them were over 60, and spinning thin, straight yarn. As rad as that is, and as cool as it is to spin, no one was doing anything exotic or artsy. There were some amazing rag hookers making incredibly artful rag rugs, from strips of extremely soft felt fabric. That was delightful.
Some women were weaving on different kinds of looms, and one woman winked at me, and told me she was Persian, and was making a rug. I kind of had to giggle.
She was really beautiful too.
Another lady had this amazing loom set up, made entirely of copper pipes. So steampunk, and so DIY and so much love for that lady! She was a hoot, and I want to hang out with her and take a class.
One woman was working on an inkle loom, using cards on her warp threads. It was really interesting to watch.
There were a small handful of ladies weaving baskets from pine needles. They were delightful.
There were several Alpacas, Angora goats, and a few sheep.
Most everyone was extremely friendly, which I find to be expected in the fiber community. It's overall, just packed with open, beautiful souls.
I showed a young boy how to use a drop spindle. His dad kept trying to mansplain it, even though the boy could see how I was doing it, and the dad had never seen a spindle, let alone ever looked up how to use one. The boy was about 10 years old, and already good at eyerolling his dads antics.
All in all, I wish there had been more vendors to choose from, but we had a nice time.

Review: Paradise Fibers Fiber Club May2017
Hey everyone,
I just got my first Fiber club box, from Paradise Fibers.
I'm sorry to say that I am a bit more than disappointed.
6 ounces of bare roving, and 5 tiny samples (just barely enough to dye up the 6 ounces of fiber) of dye.
All in all, I paid over 40 for the box, with shipping, and I could have purchased the raw elements, plus enough dye to dye up 2 whole pounds of fiber, for less than $26.00.
I am hoping that the 10 ounce advertised fiber amount evens out over the months. Maybe next month, they will send 13 ounces...or whatever. I'm just really not pleased with this month, and if next months is as shabby, I will not be ordering another box.

I did it. Episode 1 is up.
I made a video!
How nerve wracking!
And also, How FUN!
I can't believe something could be so crazy making and so amazingly awesome at the same time.
I think I'll try and get another one going today, and hopefully have it uploaded by wednesday.
I had to rip back my fade a bit...maybe 2-3 hours worth of work gone. Which is fine. I got so excited about getting so close to finishing, that I forgot to do the garter section for the solid color F. I went from the melting of colors E/F, directly to the lace of F.
SHEESH. I got all the way through the lace, and half way through the melting of the last color, before I noticed it. GRRRRR.
Anyway.
I'll be working on that today.
I'll finish it today.
And after that, I have decided I am going to pick up the Doodlebug shawl (by Linette Grayum) again, and do my best to make it work.
I got lost somewhere in the pattern and got so frustrated so many times I thought I wanted to give up.
I promised to test knit the shawl for her, and I feel WAY too bad to not make at least 1 more try at it.
I think I've figured out what throws me so badly, and as silly and ridiculous as it sounds, it's the font of the pattern. It's too pale, and not bold enough. I get completely lost trying to find where I am in it, and there I go making mistakes.
SO...I'm going to re-write it using a more eye friendly text, and try again.

Yarn Review: Solstice yarns, Falling Stars
Falling Stars, by Solstice Yarns.
63% Superwash Merino
20% Silk
15% Nylon
2% Silver
Hand dyed in Portland Oregon.
100 grams=420 yards
This yarn is quite expensive, considering there are many other merino silk yarns that cost half the price.
At $43, I'm not sure I'd pick it for myself. It's not as soft as one might hope for, for the price and fiber content, in fact, it's actually kind of scratchy, which might just be the sparkle factor. The drape is heavenly though, which brings it back up a notch for me. I'll save my final review for after the object I'm working on is washed and blocked.
Often, that process will do things to a scratchy yarn that really make a difference.
The color, I will say, is HEAVENLY!~
It's so rich and delicious!
In the mean time, I am knitting up a shawl for a swap group buddy on Ravelry.
Linette Grayum made this terrifically delicious shawl called The Doodlebug Shawl, and I am test knitting it for her, using this yarn. I figured, I may as well review it here.

This yarn is quite expensive, considering there are many other merino silk yarns that cost half the price.
At $43, I'm not sure I'd pick it for myself. It's not as soft as one might hope for, for the price and fiber content, in fact, it's actually kind of scratchy, which might just be the sparkle factor. The drape is heavenly though, which brings it back up a notch for me. I'll save my final review for after the object I'm working on is washed and blocked.
Often, that process will do things to a scratchy yarn that really make a difference.
The color, I will say, is HEAVENLY!~

Linette Grayum made this terrifically delicious shawl called The Doodlebug Shawl, and I am test knitting it for her, using this yarn. I figured, I may as well review it here.
